did you forget something in your wrecked car? bag of diamonds? roll of cash? garage door opener? EZ pass.... Green light means it is your turn, it does not mean go, ANY cars still in the intersection have the
right of way Yellow means prepare to stop, it does not mean "hurry
up" Red means stop, and stop before that wide white line. It
is there for a reason, it keeps you back from
turning cross traffic, out of cross walks, allow line of sight for turning cars to see around you. 5 second rule, means STOP COMPLETELY for 5 seconds before you go so you can see the entire picture Yield to the right when in doubt, parking lots, etc . Don't be a vampire
car, I can't see you in my mirror. If you are in the blind spot of a car in front of you, expect to get cut off. Crowding is when you keep rolling up on the car in front of you before it makes it turns
or crosses the intersection at a stop sign, if it gets hit, you are going to be hit too. Stop following the car ahead of you to the left or right in its blind spot, when they turn they are not cutting
you off, they just don't see you. Honking at them just confuses them,
slow down let them it, it's happened to you, nobody honked. Stuck
in an intersection turning left and the light is going yellow, just wait for the RED, be sure nobody is running a red light
and complete your turn. Cars IN the intersection have the right of way. REMEMBER, you can be right or you can be DEAD right. Courtesy
is contagious. Driving don'ts ride
in the blind spot of a car you are following, on the left or right crowd the car
in front of you at a stop, wait until they proceed before moving forward (you cannot push them) reading texts, the world can wait for you to get there....

Towing & Recovery
Specialist Like
all other tradesmen,
the range of rates charged by towing professionals is broad. The
owner of this shop has chosen a rate schedule that allows the business to operate in a professional manner
while maintaining the safety of the customer and vehicle. Unlike the work of the
above contractors, tow work requires a special truck. Investment: The tower needs a
wrecker or car carrier that costs $50,000 or more ($100,000 on up to $300,000
for tow trucks that tow other trucks). Insurance costs are exhorbitant because the tower is transporting
a car or truck worth several thousand dollars and is working amidst the dangerous
conditions of the highways. Towers risk their lives working alongside high-speed
traffic; every year towers are killed on American roads while hooking up a vehicle. Towers
also face time demands that other trades do not. Common Charging Methods By hook-up plus mileage So much for the hook-up and per mile is a common billing practice among towers nationwide. By the hour Charging by the hour with a minimum one-hour charge is widely practiced and easy to understand. PPP (price per pound) This method came about so that the customer could easily understand
how the bill was calculated. It best works with recovery jobs (particularly truck recoveries), as the weight of the vehicle will often correlate to the difficulty of the task. Acceptable Surcharges (any rate method) Additional
labor Many
recovery jobs require more than one tow operator. Additional trucks Many recovery jobs require more than one truck, even several trucks. Extra services Clean up of spill materials or wreckage debris is one example where it is appropriate and necessary
to surcharge. Impounding
& Storage The
cost of owning and maintaining
an impound lot can only be justified by charging hourly and daily impound fees; a
practice accepted by towers and municipalities alike across the nation. Emergency vs. non-emergency Some cars sit in the owner’s driveway waiting to be towed, others in the middle of a freeway. There is a difference. The emergency situation requires immediate attention
and involves prioritization of calls on the part of the towing company. It is an appropriate practice
to charge more for emergency calls over non-emergency calls. Bad weather conditions (heavy rain, snow, freezing temps, ice) It takes more time to tow a vehicle in bad weather
conditions and there are more risks involved. It is appropriate to surcharge during
such conditions. Days
vs. nights, week-ends, and holidays Maintaining service
at night, on weekends or holidays is difficult and costly. Call volume at these times
does not warrant a full staff, and many tow operators are on call from their home. Many tow companies
are required to offer 24 hour service by police departments and motor clubs whether or not it is economically feasible to do so. Higher rates at these times is an acceptable practice. Tow Rates On Tows Generated By Police (Non-consent tows) Tows of illegally parked
cars, wrecked cars, or broken down vehicles performed under police authority may be regulated by the state or municipality. Motorist may ask tow clerk if rate on the bill is regulated. Attention: Motorists

Call it what it is, there are no "accidents", every situation is avoidable. It is a "vehicle
collision" or CRASH. You may not have collided intentionally, but it was not an accident ......
Avoid the circumstances
that cause crashes Don't tailgate Don't be in a hurry, be patient Don't feel entitled, the road belongs to everyone Don't
drive tired Slow down
Seconds will avoid a collision, that's all it takes
When seconds count, you are only
minutes away!
Is everyone in your way? Then YOU are a speeder, we are all going the same direction at the same time,
we will all get there together

This crash scene on Maryland US15 southbound at Devilbiss Bridge Rd has a New Beetle convertible
trapped under a pickup truck and Ford SUV. Notice the "jaws of life" could not cut through the "A" pillars
for the windshield. That is how strong it is. The rear head rests work like "rockem sockem robots" and pop up when
the airbags deploy to act as a roll bar. Yes, we towed the Beetle and these are my photos. .
DRIVING BASICS
DON’T TAILGATE, IF
YOU CAN’T PASS. THEN YOU HAVE NOWHERE TO GO. LEAVE YOURSELF SOME BREATHING ROOM.
BACK INTO YOUR PARKING
SPACE, YOU HAVE CONTROL OF THE PARKING LANE. YOU HAVE LIMITED SIGHT WHEN BACKING OUT. YOU MAY AS WELL BACK IN. FIND A PULL
THROUGH SPACE AND YOU WON’T HAVE TO BACK UP.
CAN YOU SEE THE FOREST THROUGH THE TREES? LOOK BEYOND THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. DRIVE AHEAD, READ THE TRAFFIC PATTERN. REMEMBER THINGS LIKE DUMP TRUCKS AND TRACTOR
TRAILERS DO NOT ACCELERATE OR STOP LIKE CARS. YOU DON’T WANT TO BE BEHIND ONE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. YOU DON’T WANT
TO CUT IN FRONT OF ONE EITHER, THEY MAY NOT HAVE ROOM TO STOP.
WEAVING IN AND OUT OF TRAFFIC, PASSING, MOVING UP JUST ONE SPACE? REMEMBER THE NEXT RED LIGHT IS
THE GREAT EQUALIZER, SEE YOU THERE. Once you stop for a traffic light, stay stopped, don't edge, edging causes brake wear and wastes gas. Everyone bunches up closer
together, then it takes more time to pull away! People
drive like they walk through a mall. That's why we don't give guns to monkeys or anyone under 16 a drivers license. Be a conscientious
driver, don't block driveways or side streets while waiting in traffic, don't race to a red light, and yellow does not mean
hurry-up! Don't edge or creep at a red light, wait for the green light and the car in front of you to move. Have you ever waited "forever" for that light to change? You may have
crossed that wide white line and off of the vehicle sensor (that rectangular groove they cut in the blacktop is an antenna
for the traffic controller to detect a car waiting)
REMEMBER WHAT WE LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN, TO BE COURTEOUS,
THE TURN SIGNAL IS NOT THE REMOTE CONTROL FOR THE STEERING WHEEL, USE IT BEFORE YOU CHANGE LANES. A BLINKING TURN SIGNAL IS
NOT THE “CUT ME OFF LIGHT”. DO
NOT SPEED UP AND CUT IN LINE WHEN TWO LANES MERGE TO ONE. KEEP PACE WITH THE SLOWER TRAFFIC. TAKE TURNS, FORM ONE LANE.
DON’T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THE CAR IS NOT MOVING. THIS CAUSES ADVERSE WEAR TO THE POWER STEERING AND
SUSPENSION.
LUBE DOOR HANDLES AT THE FIRST SIGN OF DIFFICULTY OPENING THE DOOR, BEFORE THEY
BREAK.
HUMMING NOISES ARE BAD TIRES OR WHEEL BEARINGS. KNOCKING NOISES ARE AXLE JOINTS BINDING FROM LACK OF GREASE.
SQUEALING NOISES FROM THE MOTOR ARE LOOSE BELTS, GET THEM TIGHTENED IMMEDIATELY OR THEY WILL GLAZE AND REQUIRE REPLACEMENT.
TOWING IS EXPENSIVE. JOIN A MOTOR CLUB OR ADD EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE TO YOUR CARS INSURANCE POLICY (ABOUT
$15 A YEAR). TOWING HAS BECOME AN INDUSTRY. TOW TRUCKS ARE EXPENSIVE, SO IS THE SERVICE.
USE YOUR
TURN SIGNAL AS SOON AS YOU THINK ABOUT TURNING BEFORE YOU LOOK , BRAKE OR TURN. THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS NOT A REMOTE FOR
THE STEERING WHEEL! WARN THE VEHICLE BEHIND YOU OF YOUR INTENTIONS!
COURTESY IS CONTAGIOUS
